You may not be able to say it often, but the television commercials are correct, you can probably save money by switching automobile insurance companies. That doesnt mean that the way to do it is by switching to their company. May be; maybe not.
So, how does one find the cheapest driver insurance? Here are some ideas that actually could end up saving you hundreds of dollars every year.
Do some comparison shopping – People may not like the idea of changing insurance companies. After all, many people have been with the same company for years. To be sure, these companies are looking for people just like that. If you can save money on your insurance (and quite a bit of money in many cases) would that not make it worth the hassle of making a change?
Many rate comparison websites are available on the internet. Just be sure that when you are making these comparisons you are comparing apples to apples.
Discover Discounts – You may be surprised at the kind of discounts that are available. Yes, there are things like multi-car discounts, combining coverages (insuring you home, car, health, etc. all with the same company), and discounts for going a certain length of time without a claim. But there are even discounts for certain occupations. If drivers of your same occupation (as a group) tend to have fewer accidents, you may be able to receive a discount just for being a part of that group.
Other discounts may be provided for things like being a member of certain professional organizations (Triple A is an example), policy renewal (especially if you youve not filed claims), and so on.
Be sure to ask specifically about the available discounts for which you may be eligible.
Pay Attention to Your Driving Record – One of the very best ways to keep insurance rates down is a way that very few people consider and that is your driving record. The idea is to become the kind of driver that insurance providers like – a law-abiding, safe driver. The fact is, we all have control over one of the biggest factors that can reduce care insurance rates.
Choice of Car – It is true that when we shop for a car, insurance cost probably isnt very high on our list of things to consider. Maybe it should be. Choices we make in selecting a car do eventually effect the amount we pay for insurance. There are features available on vehicles that can lower insurance rates. These features are things like airbags, anti lock breaks, or automatic seat belts. There are some states in which insurance companies are required to provide discounts for given safety features.
Another thing to think about is that expensive, high performance vehicles are the most expensive when it comes to insurance. One reason for this is the cost of repairs, but the other is that these cars are much more likely to be stolen.
Increase the Amount of Risk – It is true that taking on more risk (lowering the insurance limits to the bare minimum or increasing your deductible) is the most dramatic way to decrease insurance costs. Be sure you understand that this may mean more out of pocket expense if you have to file a claim (which is counter productive to what you are attempting to do – save money).
