Even if you are healthy, health insurance coverage should not be an option but a necessity in your current budget. Many people who are employed do not get health insurance coverage unless it is part of their contract. Most employers would rather that employees buy their own health insurance coverage and usually provide only the most basic health insurance coverage that they can get away with and still keep their employees. There are options for people whose employer benefits do not include a policy that covers employees from major catastrophic illnesses or for loss of work due to illness.
If you work and have a family, you may also be required to carry your own policy for your family if your employer does not include a family plan in the group policy that he carries for his employees. You should always, whether you are employed or self employed, consult with your insurance agent about affordable medical insurance coverage.
Many insurance companies offer discounts for clients who carry their auto and home insurance policies with them. An all around insurance company that offers policies including life and medical insurance is the place you want to call to meet all of your insurance needs. There is no better stress reducer than knowing that you and your family are covered in case of illness. And, for some doctors and hospitals, showing up with an insurance card assures you an appointment or a better hospital room in case you have to be hospitalized.
Do not ignore online sources for insurance coverage and options. Many of the plans available are much more cost effective than what you can get from your local insurance agent, and many times also will provide better and more complete coverage. And the costs are probably lower than what you might expect for this type of protection.
With costs the way they are today, you really cannot afford to not have this type of insurance coverage and protection for you and your family. It is foolhardy to trust that you will always be healthy or that a catastrophic illness will not hit you or a member of your family. Believe it or not, a health insurance policy may not be nearly as expensive as you think, and, with the added savings that many insurance policies include routine physician appointments, your policy may pay itself off depending on your family size and on your familys health.
In the world of options, risking going without health insurance is a needless risk and could prove to be financially devastating.
