Additionally, the driver should report the accident within a day’s time if no police officers are present at the scene of the accident. If an injury should be involved, the driver must report the accident to the police even sooner- within four hours of its occurrence. Of course, any driver involved in an accident is required by law to stop and complete all of these steps.

Most insurers provide a list of specific requirements for drivers to follow if an accident occurs. Typically, this list includes all of the requirements set forth under the Road Traffic Act (RTA) of 1988 as well as a small additional list.

Most of the insurer’s requirements are in place to assist the insurer in determining the person responsible for the accident. Additionally, if the following steps are taken, it generally leads to a speedier processing of the car insurance claim.
